Every now and again (very often) we find stock Apple Fusion drives that are acting up. You might want to tear the fusion apart and put them back together again to know it's formatted correctly. Here's how you do it:

I have booted in Recovery mode as described above BUT DO NOT SEE the Terminal or anyway to access it? I want to just split what I think is a Fusion disk in a Late 2012 Imac, sionce only the SSD is working. I believe the HHD has died. (All data is backed up and safe)

Tried it but only the SSD 121GB disk shows up, not the other disk which went missing a long time ago! Recently on startup I get the message "The Disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". any links to other articles appreciated.

I've been getting SMART alerts for the SSD on my fusion drive for months. In the last few weeks I've been getting a lot of kernel panics that seem to be related to CoreStorage. And Disk Utility says that my SSD needs to be repaired. I'm about to boot into Recovery mode and run Disk Utility on it, but if something goes wrong, I guess the best thing to do is split the drive.
